Pyjama Week

- Sunday, April 7, 2013

Pyjama Week - 24th - 28th June 2013

All the children had a great time wearing their pyjamas all this week.

Pyjama week is a great way for children to share their happiness, humour and satisfaction with their friends and educators. The children were enthusiastic to see what patterns and characters were printed on each other’s pyjamas and were particularly excited if they were wearing the same pyjamas.

During this week all the children were able to express themselves while wearing their brightly coloured pyjamas, while having lots of fun!

Easter Hat Parade

- Thursday, March 28, 2013

Today was the Top Ryde Early Learning Easter Hat Parade, and all the children had lots of fun showing off their beautiful creations that they had made at home with their families.

The Easter Bunny also came to visit and left the children chocolate Easter eggs. The children excitedly ventured through the garden to find them all to put into the baskets, then they got to take them home to eat with their families.

We want to thank all the parents that got involved and created such spectacular hats.

We had lots of fun!!

Transition to School Information Night

- Friday, March 22, 2013

Our transition to school night was a great success. We had a great turn out, and received lots of positive feedback.

Our speaker, Janette Kerr is an Assistant Principal at Toongabbie Public School and has a wealth of knowledge when it comes to children starting school. She has suggested some links that you can take a look at that will hopefully be able to answer any questions you have about your child starting school.

Celebrating St Patrick's Day

- Thursday, March 21, 2013

Today all the children and staff got into the Irish spirit while celebrating St Patrick's Day.

All the children were excited to be involved in lots of St Partick's Day activities throughout the day, as they learnt about and embraced the Irish culture.

One of our Irish families came to talk with the children about St Patrick's Day and other aspects of the Irish culture. The children were fasinated while listening to a traditional Irish tale and looking at pictures of Ireland.

Slumber Party

- Tuesday, March 19, 2013

The children and staff had lots of fun at the Slumber Party on Friday 15th March.

Everyone was very excited to have a night of fun while their families went out for dinner. We made rainbow fruit skewers with popcorn as a snack to fill tummies before bedtime.

The children made their beds and got ready to relax and watch a movie, eventually falling sleep.

Thank you to all the families who joined us at our Slumber Party. The money we raised for the night was donated to Janette Kerr (Mikhala's Mum) who was Brave and Shaved in tribute to a close relative.

Community Garden Working Bee

- Saturday, March 9, 2013

Due to success of our community garden working bee at the beginning of the year, we were happy to be able to do it all again today with help from our wonderful families.

Everyone helped to get our garden ready for Spring/Summer and plant fruit, vegetables and herbs that we can then incoporate into our meal here at Top Ryde Early Learning.

Everyone work extremely hard to plant 32 different varieties of fruit, vegetables and herbs throughout our garden. We also used 7 bags of soil to add to our garden and new pot plants. The bark area was popular especially with the dads as they transferred 2 tonnes of bark mulch around our gross motor area with help from the kids. I think they enjoyed being big kids again digging around in the dirt with buckets and spades while moving it around the area.

Thank you to all our amazing families who worked so hard to help us make our garden look spectacular!

The Summer Menu

- Tuesday, February 12, 2013
We are really excited about our new Summer menu that has started this week. Kathy has put a lot of thought into the different meals the children will be eating over the Summer months. She has also incorporated a lot of foods that the children will be able to help cook, especially for afternoon tea.

Some of our menu items include; Chicken marinated in yoghurt, Beef Fajitas, Vietnamese chicken salad and cheese rolls and Thai fish balls.

Some of the menu items the children will be helping to prepare include; Beetroot dip, Blueberry bran muffins, Apple cinnammon popcorn and white bean parsley dip.

If you would like a copy of any of the recipes from the Summer menu please let Kathy know and she will be happy to pass it along to you. Also click on the link below to see more of our menu items or to have a copy to keep at home.

We love parent suggestions for our menu so if there is a dish that is popular at home or a dish you think the children would enjoy please write it on our menu suggestion sheet on the kitchen door.

Community garden working bee

- Tuesday, January 29, 2013

On Wednesday the 16th of January we kickstarted our year with an overhaul of our garden beds and lots of new plantings for our community garden.

The levels of enthusiasm and involvement were high, and although the afternoon was still quite hot outside, many families turned up and contributed time, materials, and a whole lot of effort!! Thanks to everyone who came along and helped out.

There was a great atmosphere, and the garden and outside areas are now looking fresh and vibrant with lots of new plantings. We will keep you updated on all the crops, herbs and vegetables as they develop.

Welcome to 2013

- Monday, January 21, 2013

We would like to welcome you all to a new year at Top Ryde Early Learning! We have had some new families and staff join us this year and would like to welcome them into our community.

To inform everyone of our new staff members:  Sara is the new room leader for the Waratah's, Harriet is joining us in the Acacia's, and  Ally will be helping us in the Lillipilli room. Thay all bring a wide range of experience and skills with them, so we are glad to have them aboard. They are eager to get to know everyone and will make themselves known to families over the coming weeks - so please make them feel welcome if you see them around.

The Literacy Possum

- Friday, January 11, 2013
The children love when the literacy possum comes to visit at Top Ryde Early Learning and read them their favourite stories at group time.
Literacy is so important for children during their early stages of development and the Literacy Possum provides them with a fun experience to embrace early literacy.

After the literacy possum reads the children stories he hands out special books for them to read and share with their friends throughout the day.

Thank you literacy possum for coming and sharing books with us at group time. We look forward to have you visit again soon.
